This was filmed between 4th and 11th April 2011. I had the pleasure of visiting El Teide.
Spain´s highest mountain @(3718m) is one of the best places in the world to photograph the stars and is also the location of Teide Observatories, considered to be one of the world´s best observatories.
The goal was to capture the beautiful Milky Way galaxy along with one of the most amazing mountains I know El Teide. I have to say this was one of the most exhausting trips I have done. There was a lot of hiking at high altitudes and probably less than 10 hours of sleep in total for the whole week. Having been here 10-11 times before I had a long list of must-see locations I wanted to capture for this movie, but I am still not 100% used to carrying around so much gear required for time-lapse movies.
A large sandstorm hit the Sahara Desert on the 9th April (http://bit.ly/g3tsDW) and at approx 3am in the night the sandstorm hit me, making it nearly impossible to see the sky with my own eyes.
Interestingly enough my camera was set for a 5 hour sequence of the milky way during this time and I was sure my whole scene was ruined. To my surprise, my camera had managed to capture the sandstorm which was backlit by Grand Canary Island making it look like golden clouds. The Milky Way was shining through the clouds, making the stars sparkle in an interesting way. So if you ever wondered how the Milky Way would look through a Sahara sandstorm, look at 00:32.

I love me a little bit of crazy though. Hopefully this video will help you laugh at your next cray cray encounter instead of getting upset or stressed out with the experience
Instead you can have a great fun story … “You’ll never believe the yoga I had today!”
So in one month I kept coming across videos, lectures and products all talking about the benefits of going barefoot. It started by getting hooked on the Dual Survival show on Discovery starring Cody Lundin who is an internationally know professional survival instructor and best selling author. Cody has been barefoot for decades and frequently talks of the benefits. Then there is barefoot running enthusiast Ted McDonald’s lecture at Google’s Kirkland, WA office that is extremely informative (1hr long). If you are concidering running or walking with naked feet I highly suggest you watch his talk and checkout his site Barefoot Ted’s Adventure.
The talk below by best selling author of Born to Run – Christopher McDougal gives some history and facts on professional runners who are no longer plagued by injury once they finally take off those pesky shoes. Christopher also talks about the Tarahumara Indians who are renowned for their peaceful way of life and long distance running abilities and the human desire to run.
Now mind you I’m currently staying in Georgia for a couple months and even with all the facts and information I cringe everytime I see people barefoot in the grocery store. I’m in a really nice part of Georgia too and I’ve just never seen such a thing and my reaction is ‘gross’. It’s not a big thing but there’s definitely a germ and an ouch issue that keeps me from going without shoes. Thankfully for me shoe companies are also seeing the benefits of barefoot and making shoes more like socks … just the basics to provide a barrier of protection. I’ve tried on the well known Vibram Five finger shoes but I just can’t get over the feeling of something in between all my toes. Well known hiking brand Merrell has dedicated a whole line to barefoot and I really like their Pure Glove shoe it’s light weight, comfortable and cute.
I love Cody Lundin my first reaction when I saw him was laughter and ‘who the hell is this guy?’. Now I just think he’s super sweet and awesome!
